My visit to the Murano Island, in Italy and touring a traditional Murano Glass Workshop

Many hotels, like The Westin Europa & Regina , offer a free boat ride to the Murano Island. The boat trip to Murano from San Marco is a luxurious one the takes approx. 15 mins. (See a video below).
When I look back to yesterday, I have to say that my trip to Murano was quite a personal customer experience from start to finish. The first luxury, as I mentioned, was the boat ride there provided by the hotel, free; otherwise it would have likely taken us 1 hour via the local ACTV boat bus or an estimate of over 50 euro for a private taxi). The boat ride took us along some of the canals on the east side of the San Marco area and eventually crossing the waters to the island of Murano, Italy. Right away we were ushered into one particular Murano glass company. Since the hotel we are staying in is one of the nicer/upscale hotels in Venice, I trust their chosen murano glass company selection/partnership, completely.

Secondly, the luxury continued via a private one on one tour of the entire process. We had a great time viewing the shop where the actual glass is fired up and blown, the showroom of many inspiring and very expensive glass chandeliers and artworks, to the actual showroom where you can see the more common finished products for purchase. Our guide Nick was very passionate about the glass and also provided some helpful tips about our next adventure to Lake Garda next week, as he was raised there.

Throughout the the tour we were not pressured to purchase anything, and nor did I have any intentions to buy anything. We were just there to learn, see and enjoy the island and look at look at a rare art form.
I would be lying if I said that I didn’t want to purchase some glasses (that I had been admiring for a few years now), but I was so excited when Anthony also wanted to purchase…so yep we “pulled the trigger” and made a purchase. The glasses are truly art pieces and will be part of our daily lives…since we purchased 6 glasses, (3 in milk white stripe and 3 in milk white dot pattern), used for water or wine. They’re not cheap by any means, at approximately 60-80 euros each, with 1 thrown in for free by Nick for that unfortunate just in case situation of a broken glass. They do take several weeks to make and then ship to you wherever you live, which I preferred since we were at the beginning of our trip and I always like to receive open my own packages at my door. Especially a special package all the way from Murano Italy!
